In this post we are going to be taking a look at one of the best aquariums for busy people, the Fluval Spec V.  We recently brought back home some hermit crabs from vacation and needed to set up a new aquarium for them. We already have a Fluval Spec V with a clown fish and hermit crab in it. We have had our aquarium for 3 or 4 years and haven"t had any trouble. The Fluval Spec V is so easy to set up and maintain. There was no question that we were going to get another Fluval Spec V for our new hermit crabs.

Lets start off talking about the aquarium itself!

  • The aquarium is a 5 gallon Nano aquarium. A Nano aquarium is an aquarium with the emphasis on small scale inhabitants inside smaller sizes aquariums. They can be saltwater or freshwater.
  • The aquarium is made is made of glass and has black mesh to help hide the filtration system. The tank is also edged with aluminum trim.
  • The cover is a clear plastic that has the area where the light is cut out which also makes feeding time easier.
  • The lighting for this aquarium includes a full length aquarium light that includes 37 LED lights with an impressive high output 7000 K LED. This allows for bolder fish colors and plant growth. It also has a night light that has a nice blue color.

Now lets move on to the powerful 3 stage over sized mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration system. Like most of you, this was an important factor to us when we were decided on which aquarium to purchase.

  • Mechanical:
  • The large foam filter holds the activated carbon and the bio rings. It also has a handle that makes it super easy to take in an dout of the aquarium.
  • Chemical:
  • The active carbon helps to remove many organic and inorganic material dissolve in your water. It keeps the aquarium water clear and removes odors.
  • Biological:
  • The BioMax bio rings have a complex pore system creating an optimal environment where beneficial bacteria can thrive. They reduce and control ammonia and nitrate.

  • The Fluval Spec V also comes with a circulating pump, return tube, and an output nozzle. The pump also has an adjustable flow control.
  • The Dimensions of the Fluval Spec V:

    • This aquarium is 7.5 x 20.5 x 11.6 inches

If you are looking for a quiet, small, easy to take care of aquarium this might be for you. We are very happy with the decision we made to purchase the Fluval Spec V Aquarium.
